Light the World

This holiday season, the heart of Manchester is lighting up with kindness, thanks to a special addition at Spinningfields Square.

From 13th to 27th December, visitors can experience the true spirit of Christmas through the Light the World donation vending machines, a heartwarming initiative that offers an innovative way to support local and global charities.

Light the World

The concept is simple yet impactful: the vending machines allow people to choose a meaningful gift to donate to those in need.

Whether it’s a £5 set of arts and crafts materials for children at Manchester’s own Francis House Children’s Hospice or a £400 emergency humanitarian shelter for families affected by disasters worldwide, there’s a donation option for everyone.

Every penny donated goes directly to the chosen charity, ensuring that your generosity makes a real difference.

Supporting Manchester families in need

One of the local stars of this campaign is Francis House Children’s Hospice, a beloved Manchester charity providing essential care for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

For Francis House, these donations mean the world. They could fund a week’s worth of homecare visits (£30) or three sessions of bereavement support for grieving families (£105).

“These generous donations will make a real difference for local families facing unimaginable challenges,” said Kate Puc, fundraising officer at Francis House.

A Celebration of Community and Kindness

The initiative is part of a global project by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with over 100 machines installed across 15 countries.

Here in Manchester, the machines offer something uniquely heartwarming: the chance to give back while doing your Christmas shopping.

Elder Alan Phillips, a senior leader for the Church, described the machines as a way to “foster kindness and strengthen community bonds” by helping others.

Manchester campaign lead Kevin Fletcher added, “It’s a fun, high-tech approach to giving that embodies the spirit of Christmas. We encourage everyone to visit and experience this unique opportunity to make a difference.”

Visit the Giving Machines at Spinningfields Square

This Christmas, Manchester has the chance to lead with its heart. Let’s light up the world together!
