You probably remember the gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretl. And you may have heard of pork pie hats and kipper ties. You may even have eaten a beef wellington.

But believe it or not, a house made entirely from popular British foods is going to be built in MediaCityUK later this month. There’ll be a Yorkshire pudding garden, fish and chips door, beans on toast roof tiles – and even a roast chicken weather vane.

The scrumptious structure will be made from the most popular British food favourites ordered through Deliveroo.

The reason the edible house is coming here is that Deliveroo has discovered that we order more traditional British dishes than anywhere else in the country.

The most popular dishes in Manchester include: the ‘all the way’ burger from Five Guys, at number one; cod and chips can i buy soma from The Village Fish & Chip Shop; Byron burger from Byron; mighty bucket for one from KFC; and pie and mash from Pieminister.

Also included in the most popular dishes are: poke bowl from Oke Poke; Black Angus sirloin steak from Miller & Carter; the Kettle box from Kettlebell Kitchen; haddock and chips from Fosters Fish & Chips; and the famous pad Thai from Thaikhun.

“It’s been almost impossible to ignore the spike in orders of classic British dishes since the summer has ended,” said Joe Groves at Deliveroo.

“The public appear to have rekindled their love for home-grown culinary favourites.

“Whether you love Scotch eggs or scones, you can celebrate the gastronomic renaissance and enjoy the ultimate night-in experience with Deliveroo.”

In case you’re wondering what the edible house will look like, when we requested a picture they sent us this artist’s impression, so we’re as intrigued as you probably are.

Anyone can apply for a time slot in the edible house for breakfast, lunch or dinner on Tuesday 27th or Wednesday 28th November. The ticket ballot closes on Friday 23rd November with spaces being allocated across the weekend. Places are strictly limited and will be picked at random through an online ballot.

If selected, lucky foodie fans will be invited to bring three friends to tuck into local Deliveroo favourites including fish and chips and pie and mash. And the best bit is, it’s all on the house.
