A winter wonderland with “urban attitude” inspired by the fictional land of Narnia is soon to be unveiled at the Hatch food and drink pop-up on Oxford Road.
The unique Manchester meeting point underneath the Mancunian Way has become a social oasis for those in the know since launching earlier this year.
In case you haven’t been, it’s made up of shipping containers that house independent brands serving food and drink.
And for Christmas, bosses are transforming the hidden gem into an Urban Narnia – complete with a cast of characters from the imaginary land created by CS Lewis in The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe, from Thursday November 15th.
It will expand the existing site to more than double its original size and will be transformed by festive decorations, Christmas trees (that you can also buy) and twinkling lights to become a festive fun hub for all.
The extra shipping containers will be taken over by a host of new street food and drink pop-up bars, along with some new independent shops offering some alternative and quirky Christmas shopping.
Northern Quarter favourite Cottonopolis is planning Christmas food and drinks with an Asian-inspired twist including a mulled, spiced plum sake.
If that’s not enough to tempt those tastebuds, there will be festive favourites to hand including hot toddies and hot buttered rum to warm your cockles. With wine, beers and G&Ts finished off with homemade festive cordial there will certainly be no shortage of options.
Chorlton’s Electrik bar, who successfully brought Yadda Yadda to Hatch, will be taking over a double stack of containers for an Urban Narnia bar – however all the details are being kept under wraps until the opening next week.
There will also be Christmas trees a-plenty – not just to admire but also to take home. Make yours the best it can be with a trip to the Christmas tree shop on site where you can take part in mini-masterclasses from tree decorating to wreath making.
Boutique pet shop Betty and Butch will be selling festive gifts for your furry friend selling natural dog food, leads and toys galore to keep your pooch’s tail wagging this Christmas.
And dogs will be welcome to visit Santa Paws, and get a traditional Christmas picture of your pooch perched on Santa’s knee and a little treat to take away.
There’s also a new stage being built, extra seating being added and a whole programme of events and entertainment lined up over the festive period.
It launches on Thursday 15th November at 6pm with DJ sets from Dannielle Moore and Jenna & G’s and an AV performance by The Ice Queen, Mr Tumnus and other Urban Narnia personalities, and runs until 20th December.
Check out the Hatch website for full details of the upcoming events programme and opening times.
