It’s a distracting and often worrying world.

Lots of people are reaching out to techniques like mindfulness to sharpen their focus, quieten the noise and cope with rising levels of stress.

There is another way.

Street Wisdom is a guided immersive urban walk that teaches you how to use the city streets to find fresh answers to important life questions.

Dubbed the University of the Street, it’s a social enterprise run by volunteers known as Street Wizards and it’s gaining a global following, with events having been held in more than 30 countries.

It’s a walking-based problem solving technique based on the idea that every moment is extraordinary and every street is full of inspiration.

Once we learn how to slow down and see the stimulus that is around you every day, we open ourselves up to ideas and boost our mental health and wellbeing.

Anyone, anywhere, can get inspiration from their everyday surroundings and it’s one of the most effective exercise boosts – outdoors, away from our 24/7 screen focused lives.

It’s powerful, it’s simple, and best of all it’s free.

In just three hours of walking and wandering, participants have resolved problems that have dogged them for years, found new business ideas, changed careers, discovered new directions, and learned how to deal differently with life and love.

Businesses like Lush, Samsung Ogilvy, Google and The FT use Street Wisdom sessions for their employees and customers alike.

We tried it a while ago. Find out what happened here.

Why not try it for yourself? Street Wisdom is running a special session in conjunction with Breathworks who specialise in mindfulness for physical health.

All you need to bring are a pair of good walking shoes, an open mind, and a question you’d like answered. It shouldn’t be too big (‘What is the meaning of life?’) or too small (‘What shall I have for lunch?’) but somewhere in the middle – a burning issue to which you’d like fresh answers.

January 11th 2018 9:45 am to 1:30pm, Breathworks, 16-20 Turner Street, Manchester M4 1DZ. It’s free but you must book in advance.
