“This is Manchester. We do things differently here,” said Tony Wilson. It must be something in the water.

We have bred some of the most magnificent characters and achievements the world has seen. From Emmeline Pankhurst’s suffragettes and Alan Turing’s pioneering work on computer sciences to Oasis and The Smiths. The list is several miles long. We are a city which celebrates and champions differences.

If you love Manchester and you’d like to celebrate your love in Manchester, take a little time to look at the Albert Square Chop House in the beautiful Memorial Hall.

Regarded by Historic England as one of the very best examples of Venetian Gothic Revival architecture in the country, the Hall was built in memory of Prince Albert, the love of Queen Victoria’s life, and 1662’s Act Of Uniformity, the inspiration for the non-conformist movement which epitomises the spirit of this city to this day.

Designed by Thomas Worthington, the Memorial Hall was inspired by the Palazzo Santa Sofia, otherwise known as the Ca’ D’oro, on Venice’s Grand Canal. As such it is one of the finest examples of Venetian Gothic Revival architecture anywhere in the country. Commissioned by the non-conformist Unitarian church, the Memorial Hall became a home for people who thought differently. It still is.

Although the Memorial Hall pre-dates both Alfred Waterhouse’s magnificent Town Hall and even Albert Square itself, it’s situated in an unbeatably central and architecturally beautiful location in the heart of Manchester facing the Prince Albert monument.

The statue and the square itself serve as a timeless memorial to the ultimate and undying love story of Queen Victoria and her enigmatic and enchanting Saxon prince.

Venetian columns, peaked arches and a limestone/red-brick northern fusion ooze with Neo-Gothic power, Venetian flair and Victorian elegance to create a truly unique venue which has housed some truly unique people.

The sensitively renovated basement restaurant, sultry ground-floor bar and purpose-built function suites have brought the interior of the building back to life, to match its spectacular shell.

The recipe for the best day of your life should be deceptively simple. Because there are really three ingredients for the perfect wedding. Fine food, drink to match and your type of music. Capture them all and everybody will have a day to remember. The Memorial Hall comes with its own late license private bar and resident DJs. Or they are happy to introduce you to some epic live musicians. Because if the music’s good, you dance.

“We picked Albert’s for our wedding reception because they were really warm and friendly and listened to all of the things we wanted to do on our big day. We weren’t tied to a package and we felt like nothing was too much trouble.”
