Cooking. It can be stressful and it can be time consuming. The saying ‘if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,’ is really shorthand for ‘if you can’t take the heat, two screaming kids, your grumpy partner complaining about their hard day and the stress of having to multitask replying to work emails whilst trying to sauté an onion, get out of the kitchen.’

It’s not easy and it’s not for everyone. Chances are, if you’re reading this you’d probably choose two clicks and a takeaway over a Mary Berry cookbook.

According to a survey of 2,000 Mancunians by The Saucy Fish Co, almost half of Mancunians (43%) say cooking their evening meal is the number one task that spoils their free time and almost half look for simple time saving hacks to avoid spending too much time in the kitchen.

And, let’s face it, not many people would choose chopping a carrot over watching a film or going shopping.

Of those surveyed, over a quarter (28%) of Mancunians said that the time and effort it takes to prepare a meal often puts them off cooking and sees them turning to takeaways and unhealthy snacks instead. Guilty.

It’s time poor millennials who often take the lazy approach, with 40% citing ‘too much effort’ as their reason not to cook and 15% blaming the lack of fresh produce on hand at home.

The same survey found that Mancunians spend their free time by watching films, reading, having a relaxing bath or listening to music. Almost 9% of Mancs say they have less than an hour free time a day. Who wants to spend that rustling up a meal?

We’ve all been there. That chicken and mushroom pot noodle calling out to you when you know you should probably make that hot smoked salmon and potato gratin from your mum’s recipe book, but you just CBA.

Granted, most of us would rather spend a little more time getting holistic massages and a little less time scrubbing fish off dishes, but the fact is it has to be done.

While there are probably a million and one reasons why cooking sucks – recipes are hard, cooking is boring, washing up is a pain in the you-know-where -there are many more reasons why we ought to just bite the bullet and get to it.

Home cooking is healthier, saves money and it’s pretty impressive when you’re bringing home Mr or Ms Right on your second date and you whack up a killer fillet steak with a side of honey roasted veggies and a red wine jus a la Dinner Date.

To showcase the ease of cooking from their new Cook from Frozen range, The Saucy Fish Co. have teamed up with snazzy Made in Chelsea favourite Oliver Proudlock. Famed for his hectic lifestyle and love of fitness and good foods, Oliver is used to living life in the fast lane and regularly looks for simple life hacks to complement his busy schedule.

To demonstrate how easy it is to prepare quick, convenient and tasty fish dishes straight from frozen, he was set the challenge of whipping up a delicious salmon taco dish under extreme pressure. And by under pressure, we mean fairground waltzers.

“I’m always on the go and cooking under pressure so my meals need to be quick, convenient and delicious,” said Oliver about the challenge.

“Taking on The Saucy Fish Co challenge made me appreciate how easy it can be to whip up a delicious salmon taco dish. If I can do it on the fairground waltzers, you guys can definitely nail it in the kitchen at home. I’m pretty impressed with my efforts and the end result was incredible. And who doesn’t love salmon tacos. Yeah baby!”

We agree. Now pass the salsa.
