Taylor Swift with Kelsey Montague wings

An interactive artist whose work went viral when Taylor Swift posed in front of one of her murals will create a visually stunning piece of artwork at intu Trafford Centre this weekend to help launch its summer of fun.

Pen and ink artist Kelsey Montague is famous for creating inspirational murals across the world and has become synonymous with creating iconic wings which encourage people to become part of the artwork.

Kelsey will create the mural live over the weekend of intu’s Summer Party 1-2 July, alongside a whole host of other fun, free entertainment.

The piece of artwork at intu Trafford Centre will feature beautifully crafted angel wings at the entrance to The Great Hall allowing shoppers to pose and almost ‘wear’ them.

Kelsey’s giant murals invite passers-by into her art.  “My artwork is an extension of my belief that art should not be separated from the human experience,” said Kelsey.

“Instead the human experience should have a hand in creating the art itself. Therefore all of my pieces provide an opportunity for people to ‘step into’ a piece.

”It is a celebration of everything associated with intu – there’s just so much in one place, it’s going to be really fun to capture the emotion of a visit to the centre and the spirit of the brand in a painting.”

Kelsey has gained a considerable following on social media as people post, tag and share pictures of themselves interacting with her images. Her murals are spread around the world from as far as New York, Costa Rica, Venice Beach and Argentina and now, for the first time, Manchester.

She attracted notoriety from the start of her street art career when Taylor Swift posed in front of her first mural in Manhattan in 2014. Suddenly queues were forming in front of her work of people who wanted a photo.

“People love coming to intu Trafford Centre to take pictures of the iconic architecture, statues and fountains,” says intu Trafford Centre general manager Richard Paxton.

“Kelsey’s artwork provides yet another opportunity for people to connect with the space  and encourage people to step into her artwork, become a living work of art themselves. The piece will truly belong to each and every person that takes a photo and interacts with it. The art that Kelsey creates will put a smile on the faces of our customers.”
