Whisk(e)y has seen a resurgence in fortunes in recent years with television shows such as Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire helping improve its image. Bourbon has come a long way since the days of prohibition in the US.

The days of ‘paint-stripper’ whiskies are well and truly over, with big-brand whiskey suppliers and smaller scale artisan operations experimenting and offering more accessible products. Sweeter additions of honey and maple syrup are making this much loved tipple a lot more accessible to a wider audience and making it a lot trendier to drink, with the American theme becoming more prevalent in the UK on both bar and dining scenes.

Diversification has led to the production of quirkier alternatives which have been met with acclaim across the UK, with corn, rye and flavoured whiskey liquors massively on trend.

After the huge success of their first event last June, Manchester’s very own The Whiskey Jar are hosting another Whisky Festival in November.

Expect festive food and cheese pairings, warming whisky drinks, loads of live music and a cocktail bar specialising in ingenious cocktails all made with whiskies from around the world.

With over 300 whiskies available to buy and try on site as well as talks and seminars from a host of industry professionals, this is one event not to be missed by any whisky lover.

Tickets for either the daytime session (from 12 noon until 4:30pm) or the evening session (5:30pm to 9:30) cost £20. Included in the ticket price is your very own whisky tasting glass which you can use to taste one 20ml whisky sample from each of the four stands – Scotch, Irish, American & Bourbon, World. Entrance to the talks is included in the ticket price but places are limited.

The festival takes place on Sunday 27th November 2016 at The Whiskey Jar in the heart of the Northern Quarter, five minutes walk from Piccadilly Station.
