Manchester band The Moods are kicking off the summer with the release of a powerful new single, Joy, complete with a short film shot on location in Salford and Manchester.

It’s a story which follows two wildly different characters as a typical day unravels and they  meet dramatic and contrasting fates.

“The music video was written by the band and beautifully brought to life by the fantastic actors and the team at Craftwork,” says Neil Adamson of The Moods.

“We wanted to create a short film making people look into their own hearts and ask themselves are they part of the problem or part of the solution.

“With all the craziness going on in the world today, we can’t predict what the future holds. But it’s time we all started turning away from hate and started sharing the Joy.”

The video features Steve Evets, who you may recognise from iconic Manchester band The Fall and the 2009 Ken Loach film Looking For Eric, and local actors Nicole Evans, John Mackie and radio broadcaster James Stannage.

The video may well be the ideal introduction to this already much-loved Manchester band, a 9-strong group unifying rap, brass and beats.

They have attracted the attention of local radio stations and journalists like John Robb and Terry Christian who said, “I love the fact they aren’t scared to be political and say something – working class lads saying something.”

Local legend Clint Boon is also a fan. “I think there are about half a dozen spectacular Manchester bands and The Moods are one of the them,”  he says.

Born out of a musical experiment at north Manchester’s Boomshack Studios in early 2014, The Moods quickly gathered members and momentum. They even played an emotional gig at Manchester’s Creative Collective event which still went ahead as a mark of solidarity and community support two nights after the devastating 22nd May attack at Manchester Arena.

Two of the band’s songs have been chosen for the soundtrack of new UK feature film Strangeways Here We Come, and this summer they’ll be taking their bold, live show on the road before releasing an album, A Missing Peace in the Autumn.

So get ready for the single release from a band bringing so much love to Manchester right now.

If you want to be part of the launch, they are putting on a live party at Rebellion on Friday 16th June from 7pm.
