Manchester is full of yoga studios so there’s really no shortage of places to get your vinyasa on. But, let’s be honest, sometimes you fancy getting your chakras aligned in the great outdoors and away from stuffy, sweaty studios. If you’d rather commune with nature while perfecting your downward dogs and dodgy dolphins, opt for one of these outdoor sessions. They’ll help you get your abs back, detox your body and may well change your life. Namaste.

King Street Townhouse: the one to watch the sunrise

Sky-high yoga has been a thing in the Smoke for as long as we can remember and now it has come to Manchester. King Street Townhouse has launched its yoga sessions every Thursday morning on the glorious terrace. It’s set above the busy streets so you can watch people dropping their coffee cups and tripping over pavements on their way to work as you inhale and exhale. The peaceful haven of the eighth floor rooftop is guaranteed to have you feeling fresher in a jiff. But remember this is Manchester, so if it’s raining (which is more than likely) the session will be moved down to the sixth floor. If you fancy booking, contact [email protected]

PLY Stevenson Square: the fast paced one

Let’s be honest, there’s not much better than a beautiful rooftop garden in the Northern Quarter. When it comes with a side of yoga you know you’re on to a winner. This session above PLY on Stevenson Square is Vinyasa Flow, one of the more fast-paced styles of yoga where movement is linked to breath in a beautifully smooth, dance-like way. Expect to build strength, stretch and sweat as you lift your spirits up in the sky. You’ll be developing muscles you didn’t know existed in next to no time.

The Whitworth: the picture perfect one

If practicing yoga in a picture perfect setting is what you’re looking for, then look no further than the Whitworth’s Great Escape yoga classes. They take place in the stunning Art Garden and these peaceful morning session are the perfect chance to get energised for the day ahead. There’s something oh so lovely about watching other people bustling about whilst you’re perfecting your chi.  Take our word for it, this one’s the perfect place to unwind. No texts, no emails, no stress.

Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6ER

Holistic International Festival of Yoga at Media City: the serious one

This isn’t a regular session but it’s one that’s worth checking out nonetheless. The yogi event takes place at MediaCityUK from 4pm on Friday 16th June to 3pm on Saturday 17th June. It promotes the holistic approach and it’s for those of you who take yoga pretty seriously – to quieten and focus the mind, cleanse and nourish the body, and renew and awaken the spirit. It coincides with the week of the International Day of Yoga on 21st June (the longest day and summer solstice) and gathers 800 yogis from around the world. By the end of this, you’ll probably have regular fantasies about being able to perform the scorpion. One day.
