Up to 50,000 fans, defiant at Monday’s terrible events at Manchester Arena, attended a huge gig starring some of Manchester’s favourite bands.

Fans were asked to arrive early to the Emirates Old Trafford ground, and not to bring bags in a statement released before the concert;

‘Further to the update earlier in the week confirming that the Courteeners concert on Saturday 27 May at Emirates Old Trafford is going ahead, we have continued to work closely with the Police and other authorities.

‘Following advice and guidance from all parties, there will be enhanced resources, patrols and checks in place at the stadium, and the surrounding area on Saturday, to ensure there is clear visibility and reassurance in place for concert-goers and local residents.

‘The band and promoters have commented on the 50,000 music fans embracing the legendary spirit of Manchester music, and we hope that Saturday’s event can echo and continue to support the strength, character, love and pure emotion that has been witnessed in the last few days in this great city, as we continue to remember the victims, families and friends affected by Monday’s events.’

The Courteeners headlined, supported by The Charlatans, Blossoms and Cabbage.

Courteeners frontman Liam Fray took to the stage in front of a 50,000 packed out Old Trafford cricket ground and read out a moving poem ahead of their set, concluding “If you can think you can beat us, you don’t know who we are”.
