You may have heard of the film A Night at The Museum. You may have even seen it.

But how about a night at the museum with a difference? A tasting evening led by experts from Manchester’s only distillery and meadery Zymurgorium in the splendour of Grade I listed Tudor manor Ordsall Hall.

Ordsall Hall is one of Greater Manchester’s most atmospheric museums. First recorded in 1177, over the years it has been home to medieval gentry, Tudor nobility, priests, mill workers… and several ghosts!

The tasting will be led by Aaron Darke, founder of Zymurgorium, the distillery behind the famous Manchester Gin. And with fantastic flavours including sloe, marmalade and even spiced honey rum, it’s enough to bring anyone back from the dead!

You will get to learn about the craft of making this popular drink and learn about  Zymurgorium’s innovative approach.

Behind the name – which is derived from the words zymurgy – meaning the study of scientific brewing – and emporium, there is a blossoming Manchester business.

Not only was Zymurgorium Manchester’s first distillery, with multiple distilling and infusing technologies onsite, but the UK’s first commercial craft meadery.

It was the award-winning mead which originally led the business to branch out into vodka, and then add over 20 botanicals to create what they call Manchester’s original gin.

Manchester Gin pays homage to the city’s history and uses a range of carefully chosen  botanicals including British juniper, organic coriander and homegrown raspberries. Not bad for an idea which started from a student brewing drinks for his peers.

This is the chance to taste great gin in a truly historic location. I’ll drink to that.

Thursday 18th May, 7-9pm. Tickets cost £25 per person and can be booked online or by calling Ordsall Hall on 0161 872 0251.
