New Bailey kicked off its Christmas celebrations yesterday with the unveiling of a spectacular polar bear sculpture.

Designed and constructed by local artist Liam Hopkins of Lazerian studio, the sculpture is around 5 metres in length. It is illuminated from the inside and glows a stunning bright white through the dark wintery nights.

The giant polar bear isn’t the only attraction at New Bailey. Thrill-seekers can enjoy a spectacular Sky Ride which gives an amazing view of Manchester in all its festive glory.

This year the festivities are sponsored by Bathroom Takeaway who are using their bus as a hub for Key 103’s Mission Christmas Toy Appeal. Their open-top VIP double decker will be serving up mulled wine and mince pies for anyone who climbs aboard to donate toys to the appeal.

The Winter celebrations at New Bailey last until Sunday 1 January with lots of Christmassy and wintery events planned together with some of the north west’s best street food.
