Manchester pizza restaurant and late night bar Crazy Pedro’s are famous for their wacky pizza creations. Now they’ve gone one step further by creating a collection of pizza faces to celebrate the Olympic homecoming parade on 17 October in Manchester city centre.

They commissioned the woman who designed a Royal wedding pizza portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prudence Staite, to do the same for six of Team GB’s Olympic and Paralympic Rio 2016 heroes.

Crazy Pedro’s Going for Gold collection features two Manchester stars from the hockey team – Nicola White from Oldham and Kate Richardson-Walsh from Stockport, who led her team to victory and who carried the flag for Team GB at the Olympic closing ceremony.

World record holder for the 200m medley and Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds has also been created along with national treasures Mo Farah, Andy Murray and Jessica Ennis.

Lyndon Higginson from Crazy Pedro’s said: “Britain did amazingly well in the Rio Olympics and Manchester is delighted to host the homecoming parade. We thought we would make a few of the athletes our kind of medal – which is obviously an edible pizza of their faces.

“The craft pizzas have been meticulously designed from scratch using a number of toppings made from fresh produce, meat and vegetarian meat and will be hand delivered to the athletes on the day of the parade. The pizzas are uncooked so all the athletes need to do is pop down to Crazy Pedro’s and we will cook them in our ovens. All athletes are welcome to enjoy a slice of pizza as a congratulations gift from us. Just show us your medal!”
