Whilst we’ve always appreciated the presence of avocado on a plate of nachos, we wouldn’t necessarily think of including it on a breakfast or brunch menu. Well, that has all changed and fortunately Manchester is now creating its own version of this dish to enjoy with your daily dose of vitamin D and an ice cold beverage or two. So here is a list of places to spruce up your next breakfast, lunch or brunch in the city #avocadotoast

Evelyn’s

This Northern Quarter newcomer has perfected the art of smashed avo on toast. You can order this as a side dish with delicious cracked wheatbread or as a main. Evelyn’s is the perfect spot for a slow breakfast with delicious strong coffee and fresh avocado served on crispy sourdough. The décor is minimal and clean cut but quirky with plant baskets hanging above tables and aesthetically pleasing bare brick walls. The seating area gets a ton of natural light and overlooks the trendy streets of the Norther Quarter,  a people watching heaven.

Ezra and Gil

One of the best avocado toasts in town and at a budget price too. You get lashings of creamy smashed avocado sprinkled with chilli flakes, peppercorns and plenty of lime zest for an extra kick. This is all heaped onto two generous portions of sourdough toast, and then topped with a perfectly poached egg. With its indie décor, beautiful lighting and plenty of corners to sit and cosy up, Ezra and Gil is well worth a visit.

Federal

The popular Manchester brunch spot steps up its game with a breakfast creation that will give your average avo-toast a run for its money. With killer coffee and one of the best brunch menus in the city, this place is the perfect go-to for authentic Aussie food. Plus, choose from a number of sides, including streaky bacon, perfectly poached eggs or smoked salmon. Yes please!

Sugar Junction

The name suggests cakes and sweet treats galore but, in fact, this little gem boasts an eclectic menu of cocktails, coffees and fresh wholesome food. The café’s vintage décor is a perfect match for the Northern Quarter neighbourhood. As well as cocktails and strong coffee, Sugar Junction also offers 18 blends of tea to enjoy with your slice of green goodness. The avocado toast comes with feta cheese and kale salad and is served on toasted sourdough with lashings of chilli oil for a little extra kick.

Moose Coffee

This café is based around the Great American breakfast culture but with a Mancunian twist. The avocado toast here is seasoned to perfection and served on fresh salsa verde with sourdough bread, two poached eggs, chilli flakes and coriander. The décor has an aura of a vintage New York diner, minus the terrible coffee. Top off your healthy avo-toast with a chocolate peanut butter pancake and maybe a cookie dough shake or two. Balanced diet and all that.
