A glass of prosecco on arrival followed by an array of Turkish cuisine – all for less than £20 when quoting “I Love MCR” at Café Istanbul.

Treat yourself to a type of cuisine which you may not have tried much before: Turkish. Café Istanbul bring the authentic flavours of Turkey to their relaxed restaurant and bar on Bridge Street. Their new ‘I Love MCR’ deal is a real delight – a glass of prosecco, starter platter and main course – all for £19.50 per person.

Choose the deal and you will be greeted with a glass of fizz on arrival, with true Turkish hospitality and lavish interiors in one of the city’s longest-established Turkish restaurants. This is followed by so much more than a starter. Instead it is a mixed platter consisting of hot and cold options, served with home-made bread, and can be adapted to suit vegetarians.

For main course, there are five options to choose from: each dish capturing the depths of flavour and wholesome herbs and spices Turkish food is known for. The lamb casserole is slowly cooked with tomatoes and peppers for a rich thick sauce served with basmati rice.

Lamb is a meat which is celebrated beautifully in true Turkish cooking – and the chefs here certainly don’t disappoint. Their Istanbul lamb is also available as a main course, which brings the minced meat together with spices and herbs under the grill. There is also the option of chicken casserole or seabass fillet, both served with rice and seasonal vegetables.

And for the ultimate Turkish comfort food, you can sample their vegetarian moussaka. Layers of aubergine, courgette, potatoes, mushrooms, peppers and tomato are topped with a béchamel sauce and baked with cheese. Served with a fresh salad, it can be enjoyed by non-meat eaters and meat eaters alike.

The menu provides an interesting journey through authentic Istanbul cooking and dishes of the wider Aegean region – influenced by Ottoman court cuisine with its lighter use of spicing, rice-based accompaniments and wide use of vegetables. An ideal summer meal awaits!

The I Love MCR Deal is available from 15 July 2016 to 15 August 2016, Sunday to Friday (lunch or evening) and costs £19.50 per person.
