The company whose incredible Fountain Street HQ prompted some commentators to dub it the coolest office in Britain have gone and done it again. They’ve recreated the world famous Hacienda club inside their customer service centre.

Rentalcars.com has upped the stakes in the claim to have Manchester’s coolest offices. It has splashed out on a £2.5 million refurbishment of its international customer service centre on Quay Street. The result is a design which draws inspiration from the city and its people and is sure to cause a stir.

Each of the five floors is inspired by a different aspect of Manchester’s rich heritage including Science and Industry, The Northern Quarter and Manchester Culture. There’s even a United v City room.

Whether it is relaxing aboard a rowing boat on the indoor lake or sheltering from the Manchester weather in the Rain Rooms, there’s no shortage of fun, quirky rooms for meetings, breakouts or training.

The in-house café is a reimagining of Manchester’s legendary Hacienda nightclub – complete with yellow-and-black bollards, multi-coloured uplights, a VIP area and tailor-made speaker wall. Staff are even encouraged to get fully immersed in the Hacienda spirit by spinning classic tracks on the Manchester-music-only jukebox.

They’ve even installed a state of the art pizza oven that cooks up to 120 pizzas per hour and provide free breakfasts for all colleagues.

The stunning views across Manchester are maximised through hundreds of windows which provide a full 360 degree panorama of the city.

Two of the Manchester’s most renowned artists have been commissioned to create bespoke pieces for the space. Corridor walls and meeting rooms are lined with graffiti by Kelzo and one meeting room boasts a floor-to-ceiling mosaic by Mark Kennedy, creator of the Afflecks’ ‘On the sixth day, God created MANchester’ mosaic.

Rentalcars.com CEO Ian Brown said: “Our goal was to create an office that is more than just a place to work. We wanted to create a working space that our colleagues are inspired by and can be proud of. To make sure we achieved this, we asked them what they wanted it to be, and kept them actively involved in the design throughout.”

The office is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and accommodates up to 1,100 multi-lingual employees who speak 42 different languages and look after customers from all around the world.

The refurbishment was completed following the opening of their new Re HQ on Fountain Street in May 2015 where a further 400 people are based.
