Mark your calendars – the festive season officially kicks of Friday 8th November. Joined by James Arthur and The Vamps, the Manchester Christmas lights switch on promises to be an amazing night!
A whopping 20,000 people came to party outside the town hall, Albert Square, in last year’s Christmas extravaganza. Figures are set to reach the same, if not exceed, at this year’s event.
“…celebrations that has made Manchester renowned as the Christmas capital of the UK.”
Headlining the switch-on stage will be X-factor winner, James Arthur. This will be the first occasion where fans will be able to hear new material live from his upcoming self-titled album. The event will also be James’first Christmas lights appearance of 2013.
Also performing are The Vamps, who in the past have toured alongside JLS, Little Mix and Selena Gomez. Their last visit to Manchester saw them being mobbed by a horde of young female fans, similar to pop rivals, One Direction. Performing at the switch on will be a warm-up for their upcoming tour with last year’s Christmas lights show headliners, The Wanted.
The show will also feature an array of other acts including Britain’s Got Talent duo Pudsey the dog and owner Ashleigh, remember them?
The event is free and starts at 7pm. Early birds will be treated to a performance by the Manchester Show Choir, followed by street dance performers, Rejetz.
Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester’s Christmas spokesperson, said: “Our Christmas Lights Switch-On is the official start of the Christmas season in the north west and the beginning of a six – week sleigh ride of events and celebrations that has made Manchester renowned as the Christmas capital of the UK.”
Ending with a spectacular firework display, the Manchester Christmas lights show is only the beginning of Manchester’s festive activity. The highly anticipated Christmas season is upon us and quite frankly, we can’t wait!
